Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak – Time To Test Your Cold Weather Gear
You start the trek in the middle of the night, and begin a slow, six-hour journey up to Uhuru Peak, the top of Mount Kilimanjaro. As you can see from this picture, when you are hiking up Kilimanjaro in the middle of the night, it’s very cold. You water bottle will freeze, you can see your breath, the wind is howling hard – and you are climbing, climbing and climbing. You can only take short breaks – like this picture – for a minute or two; otherwise, you will get too cold.
