Good Ponchos
I can’t stress the importance of having a very good poncho on Kilimanjaro. When a downpour starts, which is usually on the first few days, you should be able to quickly put on a poncho, and it should be able to cover your day pack, which generally is holding your water, lunch, and a few other items.
The problem is that many people buy cheap garbage bag style ponchos that rip within the first few hours. Don’t buy a poncho that costs two dollars. You should buy a descent one with strong seams that will last under rugged conditions and be big enough to fit over your head and your daypack while keeping your completely dry.
