Cell Phone Coverage on Kilimanjaro

I don’t remember if I have blogged about this before, but you can get cell phone coverage up on Kilimanjaro. Most tourists like to bring expensive satellite phones and call their friends and family, but if you buy a SIM card when you arrive, which usually costs about $1, you can have your friends and family call you. Just make sure you have a phone that is compatible for international phone standards.

My wife called me right when I reached the summit of Kilimanjaro. I couldn’t believe that I was talkiing to her in America. I was trying to describe the sunrise as one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen.

I was also text messaging my wife the night before my final ascent. It was fun to sit in the tent and write back in forth – so far away, yet so close.
